He had an elbow injury that prevented him from playing baseball in college, and as a result, he decided to pursue a career in music instead.

Wallen participated in the sixth season of The Voice in 2014, originally as a member of Usher’s team and then subsequently as a member of Adam Levine’s team. During the playoffs, he was eliminated from contention.

Wallen started working with Sergio Sanchez of Atom Smash when he was in California for an appearance on The Voice. Wallen was first connected to Bill Ray and Paul Trust of Panacea Records via Sanchez. Wallen became a member of the Panacea Records roster in 2015, and on August 24, the same year, the label issued his first extended play titled Stand Alone.

Wallen’s first song for Panacea Records, “Spin You Around,” was awarded gold status by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on April 21, 2021. “Spin You Around” was Wallen’s first single. In 2015, Wallen’s manager, Dirk Hemsath of Working Group Artist Management, sent a demo recording of Wallen to Seth England of Big Loud Shirt. England, in turn, invited Wallen to audition for his partners at Big Loud Records. They gave Wallen contracts with the record label as well as the publishing firm.

Wallen made his debut with the track “The Way I Talk,” which was released after he signed with Big Loud Records in 2016. He contributed to the writing of “Preachin’ to the Choir,” the song that was released by A Thousand Horses. A music video for Wallen’s song “The Way I Talk” was released in April of 2017.

On Florida Georgia Line’s Dig Your Roots Tour, he went on the road with them. Wallen, along with Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard, Brian Kelley, and Jordan Schmidt, contributed to the writing of the track “You Make It Easy” which was released by Jason Aldean in 2017.

After an unprecedented 114 weeks at number two on the Top Country Albums chart, If I Know Me finally achieved number one in August of 2020.

Wallen released “More Than My Hometown” as the first single to country radio on May 27, 2020. This song will be on Wallen’s forthcoming second studio album. Wallen’s new song “7 Summers” was published on August 14, and it immediately became country music on Apple Music with the most first-day streams of any song ever. It put him in the top 10 for the first time on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, where it debuted at number six and peaked there.

Additionally, Time magazine ranked the song highly on their list of the top songs of the year 2020. Wallen made the announcement on November 11 that his upcoming second album, which will be named Dangerous: The Double Album and would be released on January 8, 2021, will be a double album. Wallen hid the announcement of the album’s release date in the “7 Summers” promotional short film in the form of an Easter egg.

The Billboard 200 in the United States and the Canadian Albums Chart both saw the Double Album enter at number one. It would stay at the top of the chart in Canada for four consecutive weeks, and it would remain at the top of the chart in the United States for six consecutive weeks, making it the first new album released by a country singer to do so since Garth Brooks’ The Chase in 1992.

Wallen was featured on the cover of Billboard, which posed the question, “Is Morgan Wallen Country’s Next Global Star?” in the magazine’s title. Soon after the release of his album, Wallen made history by becoming the first artist to ever chart six songs within the top 10 of Hot Country Songs at the same time in the week following the album’s debut.

These songs included “Wasted on You,” “More Than My Hometown,” “Somebody’s Problem,” “7 Summers,” and “Sand in My Boots.” “Warning” became Wallen’s first single to reach number one on the Hot Country Songs chart. Wallen also charted 23 songs from the album on the Canadian Hot 100 and 19 songs on the Hot 100 in the United States. Some of the songs that peaked were “Cover Me Up” and “This Bar.”

Despite the scandal surrounding his use of a racist slur in early February, Wallen continued to enjoy enormous popularity. Following the uproar, album sales of Dangerous: The Double Album had a significant spike the following week. During the week that followed the controversy, there were other instances in which physical record sales, in addition to digital album sales, increased by more than one hundred percent.

Despite the controversy, Wallen maintained his position at the top of the Billboard charts for the week of February 13, 2021; Dangerous: The Double Album maintained its position at the top of the Billboard 200 list, while Wallen’s first album If I Know Me hit the top 10 for the first time.

In the weeks that followed, Dangerous: The Double Album continued to hold the top spot on the Billboard 200 list. As a consequence of this, Wallen achieved the most weeks atop the chart for a male artist since Drake’s Views in 2016.
